Make The "DREAM" A Reality!

Tell Your Senators and Representative to Support Immigration Justice and Vote FOR the “Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors” (DREAM) Act

After years of delay, Congress is scheduled to vote on the DREAM Act beginning this coming Monday, November 29.

In response to requests from both Republican and Democratic members of the House of Representatives, outgoing Speaker Nancy Pelosi has agreed to bring the DREAM Act to a vote before the 2010‘lame duck’ Congressional  session officially adjourns.

Over in the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid has also promised to bring the DREAM Act up for consideration before the senators head home for their holiday recess.

The DREAM Act allows children of undocumented immigrants who have lived in the United States for at least five years, graduated from high school, and are of good moral character the opportunity to earn citizenship through at least two years of college or military service.

This bill offers the best opportunity we’re likely to have to pass JUST immigration legislation for some time to come.  With the Republicans taking control of the House of Representatives this coming January, and the Democratic majority in the Senate seriously reduced, the prospects for progressive reform the next two years will be slim to none.

Call your Representative (as well as the offices of Senators Nelson and Johanns) today and urge them to VOTE FOR the DREAM Act.

Let’s not make our children the victims in this national debate over immigration.
